Automation Technology

Approximately two years ago, I began researching robotics technology.  I had always wanted to teach robotics, but was frustrated with the expense.  It seemed as though just one robotics kit costs hundreds of dollars.  Pretty hard to teach a class of 25 students with one robotics kit.  At the same time, the kits were not anything more than a radio controlled vehicle or rover.  Many of them are not even autonomous.  Since then I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching microprocessors and the concept of CONTROL technology.  Control technology is the essence of true automation.  My research has brought me to discover the world of microprocessors.  Microprocessors are the key to control technology.

Microprocessors

A microprocessor is a small, programmable computer that can be used to control the inputs and outputs of an electronic circuit.  Microprocessors allow us to control the timing, intensity, duration, etc. of lights, motors, buzzers, solenoids, and other output devices.  Microprocessors allow us to do AUTOMATION. 

Picaxe Microprocessors

There are literally thousands of different brands and types of microprocessors.  I have researched and found some that I believe are the easiest to program, most inexpensive, and most educationally sound.  The microprocessors I have discovered are called PICAXE.  I have tested these microprocessors extensively, developed curriculum for them, used them in my own classes, and have even taught college level classes to teachers on how to implement them into their classes.
